In every design, its the details that take the vision to an extraordinary outcome. And it’s in the detail where skill and creativity flourish. Details in a project can be realized in the choice of lighting, the hardware, the texture of the fabric, even the layout of the stone or tiles.
Details, Details, Details
The Importance of Design Details
The Arizona Retreat had over 7000 square feet of slate flooring installed. We changed it up and laid it on the diagonal, added trapezoid and rectangular “stone rugs”, and even randomly added 2” squares of glittery mosaic tile to catch your eye as you walked through the space.
The 400 bottle wine closet was nice, but adding onyx mosaic tile around the viewing window was the extra touch that finished the window frame.
The Denver Penthouse with its open floor plan lacked privacy. We had custom Shoji Screens made creating privacy for the bedrooms and flex room where originally doors were lacking.
The front entrance of the Greenwood Village Ranch was your typical 8‘square cement porch. We tore out the walkway, porch and drive way, and replaced it with a 12 foot circular porch with a seat wall, added a 4 foot wide winding walkway with brick pavers and continued with brick pavers for the driveway. The beauty of this entrance was maintained year long, through snow or sunshine, in that we installed a heated system that was the envy of the neighborhood.
Details of Lighting
Choosing the right lights becomes the “jewelry” of the project. When walking into a space, lighting is one of the first things that get noticed. One of my favorite installations was the Denver Penthouse where we installed different sizes of cloud pendant structures.
Knowledge of great resources and continual research to find new resources is as important to my work as listening and understanding my client’s needs and vision. My success is measured by my client’s happiness at the end of any project!
