Arizona Desert Retreat

Purple Aster

A Scottsdale Contemporary Retreat

Design Details

In Scottsdale, Arizona, This Desert Mountain home opens to the Desert Wow, endless views of the city lights, majestic mountains, distant golf courses and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.  We named her Purple Aster.

This project became a spiritual awakening in its framing stage with the beginnings of a blank canvas ready to reveal its true essence.  Unlike so many of the homes in the majestic setting, Purple Aster evolved from the diamond in the rough to a living organic contemporary ranch home where the demarcation between the inside and outside blurred.  Over 7,000 square feet inside and another 10,0000 feet of outside living space, “living at the top” developed into a serene and peaceful sanctuary.

The color palette we chose revealed and complimented those of the surrounding desert – vibrant colors of lavender, rose, yellow, and varying shades of green.  The rich textures of the stone selections; mosaics, onyx, marble, slate and limestone – elemental, sensuous and simple arose to create an organic theme throughout this home.  Stone rugs of trapezoids and triangles were designed to break up the extensive square footage of flooring.  Clay walls soft to the touch and ecological embraced the interior utilizing the color palette of the desert.  The lighting fixtures along with a state of the art lighting system created a heaven like ambiance unlike no other.

The kitchen, the heart of the home, looks over the family room -with expansive views of the Valley of the Sun.  We equipped the kitchen with the best energy rated appliances, including Wolf, Asko, and Sub-Zero, an organic copper farmers sink, and a stainless steel pot filler.

Outside the master suite and just beyond the putting green we designed  the “guardian” river water feature that wraps its way around, surrounding Purple Aster.

Furniture selections were simple, but rich, including a commissioned water feature and interior plantscaping of grown cactus, bringing the final touches for this home and creating the Native American integration of air, earth, fire, and water.
